A bit of history….In April of 1994, The Fiber Garden offered its first workshop in beginning spinning. There were several more beginning spinning classes that year. Those first three “students” became good friends that continue to visit, take classes, and help out for special events. In 1995, spinning workshops were expanded to include several one-day intermediate classes; at the same time new beginning spinners kept joining our fiber family.
1996 was a big year as I took the leap and began offering classes in weaving, knitting, herbs, and needle arts. Five talented teachers were hired to teach these classes….they helped to give The Fiber Garden its’ warm personality. We soon outgrew our first home, so I packed up and moved to the second location tucked back in the woods. A small out building would become the new mercantile.
After ten years and two locations, The Fiber Garden moved for the third (and hopefully final!) time to the perfect retreat to learn and create. I built a log home with a full walk-out basement to accomodate the new studio and shop. The property is located along the Black River and provides many outdoor activities for family to engage in while other family members enjoy taking a class. Workshops are still offered year round in spinning, weaving, and dyeing…with a few other classes tossed in to keep it interesting!
Hi. I am actually emailing about your spinning wheels for sale at the fiber garden site. I can’t find an email address there so i am trying to contact you this way.
my mom was recently at a spinning class of yours…about a month ago. Her name was Peg Baldwin. I am not sure if you remember her or not but my sisters and i are planning to buy her a spinning wheel for christmas. i know she liked the Louet s-10 but i am not sure if it was the double or single tread. is there ANY chance you might remember her and her preference towards one of these. of course i understand if you don’t know…i am sure you meet lots of spinners!
do let me know either way. thanks!

Hello again Amymarie! I am hoping you received my direct e-mails…but just in case, I’m copying my last e-mail message below…
I double checked on the wheel that your mom was using. It was an S-51 single treadle. The bad news is that this wheel is no longer produced by Louet and I am unable to get it any longer. I am able to sell the one your mom was using, but I can’t ship it because it has already been assembled.
The other option would be the S10 wheel. The wheel is identical to the S-51 except for the styling on the drive wheel (the big wheel that turns.) Here are a couple of photos for comparison:
S-51
S-10
Another option would be the S-17. This wheel is significantly less expensive, a bit simpler in design, and comes unfinished which lowers the cost.
I have checked on both the S-10 and S-17 and Louet does have them in stock. Typically they ship within a day or two of my ordering and you usually have them within a week. Wheels are shipped directly to you at no charge from the Louet distributor…I pay all shipping charges. This is the quickest and most economical way to send wheels. If the wheel is shipping to a state outside of Wisconsin, there is also no sales tax.
All of the styles of Louet wheels mentioned above work identical to each other. Each of the wheels will “feel” the same, so they will be the same as what your mom experienced on the S-51.
Prices of the wheels are:
S-10 single treadle, clear finish – $510
S-17 single treadle, unfinished – $350
Should you decide to order from me, all you need to do is e-mail and let me know what you’d like, and include a shipping address and shipping phone number. I will confirm your order, give you a total, and after the wheel is received you can either pay on-line at PayPal or call with a CC number.
If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask…I’m happy to help! Thanks so much for contacting me. It was such an enjoyable weekend with your mom! Make it a great day!
